Hi

I use orange as my IPS and have an e-mail address (e-mail address removed) which I
can access ok from webmail. I have set up my account in Windows mail and I
can send e-mail ok but I cannot recieve mail. I get the error message below.
I hope you can help. I don't want to change ISP or e-mail address if I can
help it as I would like to be able to access my e-mail via mobile phone or
blackberry.

can you help please ?????

The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'pop.orangehome.co.uk',
Server: 'pop.orangehome.co.uk', Protocol: POP3, Port: 225, Secure(SSL): No,
Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

I might be able to help. If I don't help then one of the more experienced
people will respond. Note that there are a couple of other people receiving
the same error today, but their servers are not the same as yours. I wonder
though if they all have something else in common that is causing this
problem.

You can attempt to diagnose the problem by searching Microsoft, especially
the TechNet. For example:
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Search/en-US/?query=0x800CCC0E&ac=8

Most of those results don't apply to Windows Mail. One of the applies to
Outlook Express but it probably applies to Window Mail too; see:
Troubleshooting error messages that you receive when you try to send and
receive e-mail in Outlook and Outlook Express
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/813514

You should look for other relevant results from the search, but the KB
article (813514) says that the problem could be caused by either the
configuration "of your AV software" or "of your personal firewall software".
Do you have your AV software set to scan email? If so then try turning off
the scanning. I am not suggesting you disable the AV software; just the
email scanning part.

Wrong port number. Change port 225 to port 110.
You can change the port number here: Tools, Accounts, select that account,
Properties, Advanced.

To disable the scanning of emails by Norton , you will need to uninstall it and then
re-install it without the email integration(scanning) option. That is the only way
to disable Norton so the disable will work.(Norton is known to be bad for disabling
only with its given option)

Use the below tool from Symantec to uninstall Norton
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039

Also read the following about the scanning of emails

I have managed to uninstall Norton 360 V3 following the instruction you
send. Unfortunately this version does not allow me to do a custom
installation. I have tried to use Windows mail without reinstalling the
software but it still doesn't work. Do you have any other advice.
thanks

fsmail.net accounts are web based access only.

I would be interested to know how you managed to send any mail from that
account in WM?

Yes it is possible to send mail via the smtp.freeserve.com server, but as I
said that type of account is web only, ie no POP access.

I have 5 throw away fsmail.net accounts, I am posting using one of them now.
So I just set one of them up in WM and was able to send but not receive.

Surely you have a Orange or Wanadoo or Freeserve mail account that you can
use in WM?

Your subject line contradicts what you posted in your message!

Your fsmail.net account will not work in WLM or mobile phone or Blackberry.
