Cannot save logon and passwords (Auto complete not working)

I'm just recovering from a Win2K system crash caused by
software corruption.

I used the System recovery cd's provided with the computer
to reformat the HDD and reinstall Win2k Pro with IE 6.0.
which displays 128 bit cypher strength.

When prompted: "Do you want windows to save this password
so you don't have to type it again?" I click yes, but the
logon and password are NOT SAVED.

I selected TOOLS, INTERNET OPTIONS, CONTENT, AUTO-COMPLETE
and checked ALL the check boxes. I also went to the
advanced tab and checked the box to "Use in-line auto
complete" NOTHING WORKS, including cold boot after the
above changes.

I am prompted to save passwords every time, but they are
never saved.

My pre-crash ie6 worked perfectly in the password save
feature, but does not work after two complete reformat and
reinstalls of Win2K.

Hello,

I'll tell you something you already know. Don't ask the
computer to save your password, your asking for trouble.
Knowthing better than tto hack into a computer and you
don't need to hack your way in.

If I enter w2k and do nothing, when it ask for a password
I don't need to enter a password, poor practice but an
option. Remember that to fully format w2k you need to
delete .ini files and some system files etc.

Try simply entering a password, don't save it and see what
happens. If that does not work go to the command line and
run chkdsk /F /R /X and go and get a cup of coffee.
Usually you need to rebot to make it work. There are ways
around this problem but it could be as simple as a
scratched disk that does not put in the dll file. Next you
can scan disk, look it up in help. Format, kick it three
times, joking. Manually install the three boot disks,
there is a program, quite expensive that would fix your
problem. But MS does not like us lending software so I
wouldn't do this. It called Winternals and it lets you
work on your computer, no matter in what shape its in,
both Gui and command line. Get a copy of the start up
files for W2k and system files and reinstall. These are a
few options.

Good Luck
