cannot save a file in PPT 2003

I was sent a PPT file. I can open it in ppt 2003 but not save any changes.

Do you have the full version of PowerPoint 2003 or just the viewer? If you
have the full-version, is it opening in the full version and not the viewer?
I'm guessing the answer to those questions is "yes" because you imply that
you made changes. When you opened the file, did it open as Read-Only? In
that case try Save As instead of Save. The last possibility is that it is
password-protected in some way in which case you might need to get the
password from the person who sent it.
