Cannot rename. move or delete certain folders

Hi,
I recently installed a 2nd comp. Both have xp prof. As I
could not get files and transfer wizard to work, I copied
certain files and folders onto a cd and transferred that
way. Problem is now that some of the files and folders
are now all reported with their names in UPPER CASE and I
cannot rename, move or delete them without first shutting
down. The most common error is that the file is being
used by someone else or another program.
Waht gives? Can anyon eshed some light on this??
