Cannot remove SP4

I need to run JVM for a Citrix Gateway which I am trying to
setup on a new W2K server. Microsoft's recommendation for
getting JVM up and running was to remove SP4 and install
SP3. The server was originally set up with the newest W2K
Server OS install (which includes SP4).

I followed the Microsoft knowledge base instructions for
removing SP4. I was able to run spuninst.exe "successfully"
and "remove" Service Pack 4 (it no longer appears as an
item in Add/Remove Programs). The server still boots but it
also shows Service Pack 4 on the Systems Properties display
and it will not allow me to install Service Pack 3 because
it still thinks SP4 is installed (Probably a registry entry
but I can't find it). I will reload the entire server, if
necessary, but would rather avoid that option if possible.
All I want to do is to remove SP4, install SP3 to get the
JVM running properly and then reinstall SP4 and get on with
life. Any help would be appreciated.

If you originally did an integrated install of Windows 2000 w/SP4 then AFAIK
removing the service pack wouldn't be possible. Or if the server was
installed w/ no SP, then if SP4 was installed and at some later point SP4
was reapplied you would get the exact result you're seeing. A possibility
would be;

As far as stability goes though, I wouldn't think twice about blowing it
away and starting a new install.

Hi

You can install/upgrade MS Java Virtual Machine on a Win2k SP4 computer as long

as you use the non-Win2k JVM installs (a.k.a. the Win9x/WinXP/NT4 installs).

If no JVM is installed at all on the Win2k SP4 computer, you will need to
install build 3805 first (msjavx86.exe), then build 3810 (no reboot is needed
in
between).

You can download build 3805 and 3810 from here:

http://kickme.to/virtualmachine

(note that the information under "Are you a Windows 2000 SP4 user?" is wrong)

Note that you for build 3810 need to rename the downloaded file to msjavwu.exe to
be able to install it on a Win2k SP4!
