Cannot Reload Windows

Put in a new mother board in my computer. Tried to reload windows XP Home
and I get a message that says cannot reformat hard drive because not enough
memory and or disk may be corrupted. I have 1gig RAM and 2.80 ghz processor.
My hard drive is 40 Ghz. Why can't I load windows.

If this is a company (other than Microsoft) branded OEM version of Windows,
that may be your issue. Some branded OEMs are "tied" to the first computer
they were installed on by the manufacturer and changing the motherboard
would change the specifications so that the OS won't install.

Other issues are that the installed memory isn't compatible with the new
motherboard or the hard drive is hooked up incorrectly. What do you see
when you go though the post messages (as soon as the system starts to boot?)
Hard drive recognized, memory amount is displayed correctly.

Post exact wording of the error message.

I've only seen it happen with laptops...but I've had different bios's
report a different number of heads/sectors/tracks. When you move
the drive, you have to fdisk it. Never seen this happen on a desktop.

SATA issue?
There's always the possibility that your new motherboard is defective.

Does your computer POST... i.e., does it do the memory check and then
display your hard drives and optical drives? Can you enter the BIOS
and see your hard drive?

If you have problems with the above, you have hardware issues.

If all of the above is OK...

Where did you get your copy of Windows? Did it come with your
computer? Is your computer a brand name machine?

If yes and yes... that's the problem. You have an OEM copy that is
tied to the original motherboard.
