Cannot recover from hibernation

Hi,
On my IBM Thinkpad R40, I let my Windows XP Pro go into hibernation
last night. Now, I'm unable to boot anymore. This is what happens when
I turn it on:

1. Shows IBM Thinkpad splash screen
2. The following is displayed and the computer hangs:
L 99 99 99 99 99 99 99
99 99 99 99 99 99 99
99 99 99 99 99 99 99
99 99 99 99 99 99 99
99 99 99 99 99 99 99
99 99 99 99

Normally, LILO will show up for about 3 seconds before Windows boots up
by default.

This is not the first time I use hibernation. There has never been any
problems till now.

for the record, my MBR was corrupted and rewriting it cures the problem.
