Hello,

I'm using Outlook with Exchange Server, and I synchronise
my mailbox for offline work (with an OST file).

After some changes of profile configuration, now I cannot
work offline anymore. The offline folder won't open, I get
the error message "unable to start processing
services. .../offline.ost cannot be accessed. you must
connect to your Microsoft Exchange Server computer at
least once before you can use your offline folder file."

The problem is that I can not connect to the server now
and I want to use the offline folder.

I have read the KB 163589 which says the following:

"You can recover mail stored in an OST, provided that you
have not tried to modify the profile that was used to
create the OST file. If the profile used to create the OST
file has been modified to point to a new mailbox, the
information contained in the OST file may be lost.

This is because security on an OST works so that Windows
NT authentication cannot be used when you work offline.
Therefore, you must "prove" that you're allowed to log
onto the server-based master before the OST file gives you
local access. To do this, Exchange Server creates an
encrypted "cookie" from your mailbox's unique entry ID
while you are successfully logged into the Exchange Server
computer. This cookie is securely stored in your Exchange
Server profile. Essentially, your profile stores this key
for the OST. Every time you try to access the OST file it
checks your profile for the existence of this key."

My simple question is: is it possible anyway to open the
OST file without logging to the Exchange Server ?

thank a lot for help,

Jean-Baptiste BLondel.

Hello all,

I found myself the solution after some time of web
browsing...

It IS possible to retrieve data from .ost file even if the
profile has been changed.

Please use ost2pst.exe (V2.1 is free, download at
http://www.xcopy32.com/email.htm for example), it WORKS !!
The new official and expansive version is ExchangeRecovery
($500).

Hope this helps,

JB.
