Cannot open link in Hotmail/IE6/SP2

I've seen similar messages posted, but no satisfactory answer. What happens
with some links in Hotmail e-mails, is that when I pass cursor over them it
says "Javascript:OpenWin('http//....)" Nothing happens when I click on such a
link. However, I have no such problem with the same e-mail/link in Outlook
Express. I can open link. Any suggestions. This happens only since I've
upgraded to XP/SP2. Is it the Internet Options? Norton AntiVirus, Other?

Hi Don,

No, reloading the scripting engine made no difference. In fact, nothing
happened when I clicked on the link in the e-mail notice of your response.

As I wrote before, when I forward the e-mail to my Outlook Express account
and click on the link the web page opens OK. This is a Hotmail problem only,
and a problem with javascript links only.

I've been trying to find a solution to the same problem for the last week.
At last your's has worked. I tried Hotmail Support 3 times and never
received a reply; tried MS Support online and they didn't come up with a
solution and MS Knowledge Base and implemented everything in article 281679
but none of that worked either. So thanks very much as I use hotmail for my
job.

Sorry Don - your solution only worked until I closed hotmail down. When I
re-opened it later the same old problem was back. As I said before I use
hotmail for my job and I'm desperate to sort it out.

Hi,
Try turning off the IE pop-up blocker. Any other pop-up blockers running?

You might try disabling any security-type program that might be blocking
java scripts.

Try Internet Options> Security> Internet Zone, reset to defaults. Or, same
screen, put *.hotmail.com and *.msn.com in trusted sites zone.

Have you cleared the cache recently? Internet options> General> [Temporary
Internet files] Delete files.

Don,

I'm afraid this didn't help. I cleared cache. I could not "put
*.hotmail.com and *.msn.com in trusted sites zone" because they're not
https// sites.

I turned off the IE pop-up blocker. I allowed scripting in Norton Internet
security. Nothing made a difference. Yet, when I forward a Hotmail e-mail
with the offending link to my Outlook Express/Road Runner address, I have no
problem opening the link from OE.

Don,

I finally seem to have solved the problem. I turned-off "Ad Blocking" in
Norton Internet Security. That did the trick.

Thanks Alex, I have been trying to solve this problem for weeks now and after
reading your post I turned off the Ad blocker in Norton Internet Security and
presto problem solved! I spent nearly an hour on the phone with Microsoft
support the other day trying all sorts of things including uninstallling and
reinstalling Norton all to no avail and their advice was uninstall XP SP2
(which I didn't do). Your advice solved my problem in 2 seconds.
