Cannot open Excel

When I try to open I get a subject: Windows Installation. Then: Please wait
while Windows configures Microsoft Office Standard Edition. Then: Gathering
required information. Then: E:\L2561412.CAB\
After waiting for a few minutes, it tells me to put in my Office disk. I do
that; nothing happens. Can someone help?

It might be better to re-instal ,ie complete install, of your office package.
This will save future problems as a minimal install does not load things
like vba tools, Speller, Thesaurus, pictures & media, and other things. After
installation, reboot your computer.
If a message box appears after reboot or on first try at excel or word or
access or powerpoint saying that windows is configuring, let it do it. Don't
Cancel the message box.

And I can uninstall and reinstall without affecting my files? As an
addendum, after reading another post, I tried to download some updates
(earlier today). System would not complete the download for some reason.
Now, I can't go into Word. I get the message update has not loaded.
