Cannot open database file from remote location

I am trying to open an access database located on a remote server from my
home laptop. I get the error message "Microsoft Access cannot open this file.
This file is located outside yourintranet or on an untrusted site. Microsoft
will not open the file due to potential security problems. To open the file
copy it
to your machine or to an accessible network location."

I can map a drive and copy the database from the server to my laptop with no
problem. I am running MS Accesss 2002 on an XP professional windows system.
I have other friends who can do this task using the same version of access
and OS with no problem.

I read one suggestion that said right click on the file and unblock, but
cannot find that option......

The unblock option would be Right Click the file, choose Properties, then
Unblock (if it is there in this scenario). The real problem is using an
Internet connection to open an mdb file. If the connection hic-ups, you may
corrupt the file. If you're writing to the file at the time of the hic-up,
you WILL corrupt the file. If you want to open the file over the Internet, I
would recommend using remote control software. There are several options
available, but this would actually let the file be opened and run on the
remote computer with just the screen being sent to your computer.

Thank you Wayne. I understand what you are saying and agree. I think I have
this resolved as I am using remote control sw as you suggested. Thanks again.
