Cannot open Adobe PDF files as e-mail attachments! Help!

I just got a new Dell XPS notebook with Windows XP Media edition.

My question/issue: I cannot open adobe PDF files that are e-mail
attachments. This is strange for at least two reasons: (1) I have downloaded
PDF files from the internet with no problems; (2) My older desktop has no
problem opening the same PDF file (an e-mail attachment) but I cannot open
the PDF file via my XPS (same e-mail, same file). When I click to open the
file, the Adobe program begins to open and then NOTHING! It says "finished,"
but it is completely blank.

Anyone know what is happening and what I can do to fix this? Is there
another forum I should direct my question to?

By the way, "third-party browser extensions" is enabled! Would
re-installing the Adobe reader be the answer? If so, why do I have no
problems reading other Adobe PDFs (the problem comes with trying to download
an Adobe file as an e-mail attachment).

Thanks,

John Dennis

What program are you using for E-mail?

Try saving the .pdf attachments to your hard drive first, then try to open
them.

pdf is a file extension that Adobe has a capability to open.
However, there are other programmes that use the pdf extension

http://www.filext.com/detaillist.php?extdetail=pdf

Ask the source of the file what programme was used to create it?

Is your anti-virus programme set to scan incoming mail?

What email programme are you using and what version?

Well, I am using a University e-mail on the University network. I have
never, in 5 years, had such a problem.

It will not allow me to save the document!

Again, the strange things are: (1) I have no problem opening the PDF from
the same e-mail on an older desktop; (2) I can open other Adobe PDF's on my
new Dell laptop (the one I am having the problem with). I just don't get it.

I am using a University network and their e-mail program. I have never ever
had a problem like this (remember, on my old desktop in my office, the PDF
file opens fine. The problem is with my new Dell laptop).

Yes, McAfee is set to scan e-mails. Should I turn this off?

Ask the University IT department then, since we have NFI what program you're
talking about.

Don't you know that there is a guy sitting in a little office some where on
campus screwing with the settings. ;-)
