Cannot obtain IP address from internet provider after connecting via VPN to work

B

Brandon

Hello!

Basically, my situation is that I was installing software
on my home PC to be able to connect to the network at
work. I setup my VPN connection, and then made sure I
could connect. Since I've disconnected, I've been unable
to get an IP from my cable modem for Road Runner. I've
tried resetting the modem and rebooting several times with
no success. I'm made sure that in my LAN properties, I
have DHCP enabled and that I am set to obtain an IP
address automatically. I've also verified that my
settings in IE are correct. Below is a copy of my ip
configuration, as well as the message I get when I try to
release and renew my IP:

Microsoft Windows 2000 [Version 5.00.2195]
(C) Copyright 1985-1999 Microsoft Corp.

C:\>ipconfig

Windows 2000 IP Configuration

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
Autoconfiguration IP Address. . . : 169.254.74.50
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.0.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . :

C:\>ipconfig /release

Windows 2000 IP Configuration

All adapters bound to DHCP do not have DHCP addresses.
The addresses were automatically configured and can not be
released.

C:\>ipconfig /renew

Windows 2000 IP Configuration

The following error occurred when renewing adapter Local
Area Connection: An operation was attempted on something
that is not a socket.

Any thoughts? Thanks!

See KB article 318584 "Operation Was Attempted on Something That Is Not a
Socket" Error http://support.microsoft.com/?id=318584. You might also have
to uninstall the software that broke the stack and reinstall the network
card as well.
