cannot log in to XP home edition after new installation

I installed XP home edition as new installation overwriting my Windows 98.
Installation seems to be complete with no problems. When I try to log in
however I get the following error:

"The system could not log you on because the specified domain name either
does not exist or could not be contacted".

I have this at home where the computer is not part of any network.

Can anyone help.

You need to start over and perform a "clean install".

Assuming you selected the option to "save system files..." - go to control
panel and select to remove XP
and reinstall 98 - afterwards check 98's "computer name" and affirm it
is/was not part of a
domain/workgroup.

Thank you.

Will XP allow me to start over with a new hard drive after I have requested
activitation on my previous install.

Thanks,
AAB
