i'm trying to instal xp pro onto a harddrive that has windows 2000 on it but
in the middle of the setup, the blue screen appears and says the error
message about having the system shut down to prevent serious problems/ there
is

0x0000008E (0XC0000006, 0X8091C953, 0XF7982A10, 0X00000000)

I read somewhere that i should try romoving my memory modules. How do I do
that?

You look in the motherboard manual for instructions on the procedure. Or
you just take off the case cover and go to it.

Before you go tearing into your computer
Download and run Memtest86:
http://www.memtest86.com/download.html

Chances are that if you run Windows 2000 successfully you don't have a
problem with a memory module.
Some moire information about what you're trying to accomplish would be
helpful.

Are you trying to upgrade from Windows 2000 to Windows XP?
Are you trying to dual-boot 2K and XP?
What make and model is your computer?
How much RAM?
Make and size of your hard disk?
Hard disk partitioning, if any?
Service pack level of XP you're trying to install (integrated SP2?)
