Cannot install "Classic" search

A couple of weks back one of the MVP 's ( Harry Ohm I think ) suggested
downloading Tweak U to change XP's abominable Search to the Classic search
as in W2000, I followed the instructions and it worked fine. I passed this
information on to my son,who has a new SONY laptop with XP . He downloaded
TweakU Ok but cannot check the "Change to Classic Search" boxes in Explorer
as they wo'nt change, also the Apply button is greyed out. Anybody any idea
why this should be ?.
Additionally,can someone tell me why my list of posting in this newsgroup
jumps from 3/2/2004 to 14/2/2004 wih nothing in between? Just curious.

Change your view settings to show all messages instead of hiding read
messages.

Sharron replied to the last part of my posting advising me to change my View
setting to "read all messages". but that is already set. Also I had two
replies to my posting but my own message does not appear, and 'find' does
not show any of them. I'me baffled.

Hi Harry,
If you're not missing posts due to view settings, try resetting the
newsgroup or unsubscribe/subscribe to get a fresh download of headers.
