Cannot install ANY new Hardware

Recently tried to install new second harddrive to my machine

Receive an error in the Hardware update wizard

Pop-up says:
Cannot Install tihs Hardware
There was a problem installing this hardware:
WDC WD12000JD-22HBC0
An error occurred during the installation of the device
The specified service does not exist as an installed service

Additionally after I attempted to connect my digital camera to my PC, I
received the same message (except the specified device was obviously
different)

Something is preventing windows form correctly installing/loading any new
device drivers. I've checked the Knowledge Base and online forums. All to
no avail. I figure I could re-install windows to correct the problem, but I
really don't want to go through that hassle.

I've tried all the obvious things checking for a virus, updating windows,
updating my motherboard chipset.

This is a SATA HDD?
Did it come with drivers?
SATA controller card or MB supports SATA?
Is drive recognized by computer BIOS during boot up?

Yes this is SATA HDD.
No it did not come with drivers. I believe it uses Windows drivers. MB
supports SATA. Primary drive that is already installed and working is SATA.

Drive is seen by computer at boot-up. In fact drive even shows up in
Windows Explorer and I can read/write from the drive. But, the drive has a
yellow exclamation mark over the drive in device manager and every time I
re-boot the drive is found as new hardware and I get the same can not install
new hardware error.

No I didn't have to do anything special. The instructions were straight
forward.

Device managers reports Code 28 - the drivers for this device are not
installed

I have talked to WD 3 times. They weren't able to help me arrive at a
solution. In thier defense, I don't think it is their problem to solve. I
think it is more of MS issue. (Maybe a registry problem) The reason I think
that is because my Minolta digital camera gives me the same error when I
connect it up via USB to my PC.

Something is preventing any new drivers from loading. I'm baffled.

From where are you getting the SATA driver files? Usually, they
are found in the cdrom that came with the motherboard. If not,
there might be a driver upgrade at the website for the maker of
the motherboard.

Have no idea what you problem is?
What do you mean "the red color turned blackish.."?
Describe your problem?
It's better to start your own thread!!!!!!

Disk Management shows "healthy"

Remember that I also received the same error when trying to connect my
digital camera.
My digital camera connects as a drive via USB. This drive is used for
reading my compact
flash card in my camera.

Something is preventing my PC from installing any new drivers. I'm
suspecting a registry
problem.

Hi David

Have you found your problem because I have the same issue with a sound card
and I suspect like you a registry problem preventing me to add new driversÉ
