Cannot finde a file...everything i do

Chris

Hello, i do not know if i am in the correct section but i
hope i am, if not could somebody please direct to to
where i need to go. thank you.

my problem:

On this cimputer, everytime i go to open a program, e.g a
game, or windows update, or my computer thourgh the start
menu (it opens from the desktop) or my anti virus and so
on, including internet explorer, i have to use a short
cut i have been given to get onto website. i keep
gettting the message :

This is for the windows update option from the stat menu:

(title in the green / blue part of the box) :
C:\WINDOWS\System32\wupdmgr.exe

Then error message recieved:
Windows cannot find: "C:\WINDOWS\System32\wupdmgr.exe".
Make sureyou typed the name correctly, and then try
again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and
then click search.

that error message is recieved for everything i do,
including disk cleanup and so on, i have managed to get
the defragmenter to open though. that error message is
recieved but obviously, with a different file extension
for the different programs.

i ahve pressed f8 when i load up the computer to try and
go back to my last known good configuration, but even
thought i have set it to do so. this is what i get back
up time after time.

i have done an onlne virus scan and have had no viruses
found.

i also get a error message when i log onto a user account
on this computer, i cannot remember exactly what it says
but it is VERY similar to this:

windows cannot find :C:\WINDOWS\System32\..... - in
the same style as to what the error message when i try to
open windows update is like.

i would appreciate an help that can be given, asap if
that is possible.

thanks a lot

chris

From this thread:

It appears to be malware or a virus.
Since you've done online scans for viruses, try also to scan for
malware.

Try downloading, installing and updating the
spyware removers from the links below. Run both of them.
