Cannot enable Internet Connection Firewall

Mark Jones

After reinstalling WinXP Pro (over same OS) I can now no
longer turn on the built in firewall. I get the error
message:

"An error occurred while Internet Connection Sharing was
being enabled. The dependency service or group failed to
start"

Can someone tell me why this is happening and how to fix
it? It was fine before I reinstalled XP.

Thanks

Hi Mark,
Although the built in firewall may give you a sense of security and I
suppose does it's job to a degree, I would consider using a free firewall
such as Zone Alarm.

I have exactly the same problem with Windows XP Home
edition. In addition, I [as administrator] cannot
internet connection sharing to work.!

The service could be disabled.
Start > Run "services.msc"
Look for Internet Connection Firewall/Sharing
Right-click/Properties
Set it to Auto and start it
Apply and ok
