cannot empty the clipboard

I am befuddled by the error message "cannot empty the clipboard" when I try
to cut and paste in any Office 2003 application. I seems the problem starts
in Excel where the error message first appears, but even if I don't do a lot
of cutting and pasting, the problem is intermittant in other office apps
including notepad. Sometimes rebooting helps, sometimes not. I am not
running Get it Now, or using Terminal server. I am a very basic user and not
involved in any databases or complex networking. I have not seen any helpful
posts to the MS KB or anywhere else on the web. Can anyone help me. I need
the clipboard. I may have to toss this computer if I can't fix the problem.
Help me...please...some one...please.

There is nothing in my clipboard when I look. Very strange that copy paste
doesn't work in Office, but sometimes it does work in notepad.

I would also love to find out what's going on here. I started getting this
error when I upgraded from 2002 to 2003 (1 week ago). I only get it when I
drag one cell to another. AAARGH!

I don't have Getright on my PC. This is the only clue that MS gives on how
to remove on their KB and it is BS that this is the only posting they have
there. I'm still baffled.

Hello. I have this same problem. And, like you, I am not running Getright.
Have any other solutions surfaced?
Thank You. J

Ok. I am not starting to lose it. I reinstalled Windows XP, all my
applications and data, but still I can't use the clipboard. The problem is
intermittant. Sometimes after booting I get two or three good cut and pastes
and then no more clipboard use. Nowhere on the web do I see any solutions to
this other than the remove Get right, which I don't use, and more about the
terminal server which I don't use. Look up "can not empty the clipboard" and
you will find all the posts where people talk about the problem, but there is
no solution anywhere in sight. I'm thinking about buying another computer or
possibly an Apple. This is unnacceptable because I use the clipboard every
day. I can't do my work with out the clipboard. Is anyone going to be able
to help Me

I get this and share your (and everyone's) frustration! I have discovered
that if I am running TS this will happen, even if I'm not using any Office
programs in TS. I cannot figure out why it happens when I'm not running TS
though.

Hi Jen,
I don't know the problem you are addressing here but if I want to know what
is on the clipboard I go to Start>Run and type in clipbrd (note the
spelling) which brings up the Clipboard viewer where you can delete the
clipboard contents amongst other options.

tomcat3, I'm running 2003 and I am not running Getright. I also feel your
pain. I don't know what causes it either. I have some luck with this problem
only after I re-boot. Clearing the clipboard, from the Start>Run or in Excel
edit>office clipboard>clear does not help.

I understand your frustration, we have 10+ analysts using excel on different
machines, none of which have getright or ts. Has anyone attempted to adress
this error with ms?
