Cannot drag and drop files

Hi,

I'm pretty sure my computer got hacked, and I'm trying to
move some files to another computer on my network so that
I can reinstall my OS. The problem is that I cannot even
move any files on my computer. The files cannot be moved
anywhere whether I use cut, copy, or drag & drop. Help!

Cann you define "cannot?" Do you get an error? Unexpected behavior? Do
you mean that someone stole your mouse, and this is the reason that you
"cannot" do this?

What happens if you just try to cut|copy and paste?

"cannot" meaning that the files seem to be locked when I
click and drag on a file (i.e. they don't move, but they
can be selected). I don't get any error messages, and as
stated earlier, cut|copy doesn't work.

As there doesn't seem to be any info on this issue in the knowledge base, if
it were me, what I would do is:

1. Be sure AV software is up to date and scan for viruses.

2. Turn on mouse keys in accessibility options and see if
I can drag and drop this way. (Use 0 in conjunction
with direction to drag).

If this works:
1. Verify mouse buttons aren't reversed in mouse settings.
2. [Re]install mouse drivers (Intellipoint,
even if not a Microsoft mouse)
Else:
1. [Re]install latest service pack for operating system
