Cannot Delete Temporary Files

I have recently found that, when I am logged on to Windows, I now have two
files of the form ~DF????.tmp in the directory:-
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Temp

These two files have only recently appeared.

With no applications running, if I try to delete either of these two files I
get the error message:-
Cannot delete <filename>: Access is denied
Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected
and that the file is not currently in use.

As the disk is not full or write-protected then I can only assume that these
two files must be currently in use.

Can anyone please tell me what is currently using these two files?

If not, is there any way I can find out what is currently using these two
files?

I am using Windows XP Home SP2 fully up to date with Windows Update

Your system is using them. Quit obsessing over them and move on.
