cannot delete files

I'm trying to delete a folder but I get the error message, "cannot delete
folder: data error (cyclic redundancy check). Any suggestions?

A CRC indicates a serious disk hardware problem. Back
up your important files while you can, then download and
run the diagnostic program that your hard disk manufacturer
makes available on his home site.
