Cannot delete duplicate pst, both "close pst" unavailable

I have just installed Outlook 2003. I'm having real trouble with duplicate
pst entries. A second folder entry just appeared for a single POP3 account,
each is duplicating the other exactly and recieving the same e-mail. Since
both are active e-mail accounts I cannot delete eith one. How do I get around
this?

Thanks for responding but i'm much further on than this, however I did what
you suggested and created a new pst. As expected this worked just fine.
However, once I moved all my data to the new pst and tried to close both the
old folders... one closed fine the other confirmed the "operation failed the
object could not be found" All attempt to remove this folder fail. I removed
the account and the data file... nothing. There MUST be a better way of
managing these folders......

BTW I have 3 pst files. One for my hotmail, one for my pop3 account and one
for archiving. All are located on a separate data HD (not in the default
location). I migrated this from Outlook Express and duplicated what I've set
up many times before. All works fine except I had these two identical folders
pointing to the single pop3 pst. Now I have a folder that is not
recognised....

You migrated your data incorrectly to the new version and your profile is
now corrupt.
Create a new profile. Use the Help file instructions to migrate your Outlook
data:

That's not at all what Russ suggested. The article he cited describes
creating a new mail profile.

If this happened, then you did not follow the procedure properly or you
overwrote an existing PST with one of the same name, which the article
doesn't tell you to avoid.

Instead of the article Russ suiggested, see if this one is more clear:
