I have FP 2003 and I am trying to create a new web site on my hard drive in
the my webs folder just like I always do, I clicked file new empty web as I
have done many times to create a brand new website, after clicking ok I get
this error message "Unable to create a disc based web at C:\Documents and
Settings\MichaelSimonov\My Documents\My Webs\newwebsite because its parent
web would not be a disk based web - Create the disk based web else where
outside of your webservers document hierarchy" I have tried to browse to
other locations to let it create the new web somewhere else as well and
still will not work...i have ininstalled FP and reinstalled, same
thing...This has never happened before ...I have done this many times before
when creating new sites .....please help

One possibility albeit slim, do you have a web server such as IIS running?
If so, check to see what directory it is bound to. It should point to
c:\inetpub\wwwroot by default, but make sure it hasn't been accidentally
pointed at C:\ instead. This would cause your entire drive to be turned into
one great big web site and thus cause FP's complaint.

Mark, thank you for your reply but you have totally lost me...I am not very
technical...I disconnected from the internet ..normally I am connected all
the time...tried it and still nothing...I am however able to create a new web
on my D drive which is a dvd cd drive???? Can you give me some simple basic
directions to check what you mentioned, as far as I know I do not have a web
server of my own...I publish to go daddy??? Please Help me to seeif my drive
has been turned into one great big web site

One more thing...recently I downloaded a program called UNYTE which allows me
through SKYPe to send someone a link and then they can view my desk
top...could this have turned my hard drive into a giant web site I can
direct FP to create the site on My D Drive on a dvd and it works fine
