Cannot copy FILENAME The specified network name is no longer available.

Hi

I have searched and tried all that I could think of, but
am at a loss.

--------------------------------------------------------

Error Messages:

"Cannot copy FILENAME. The specified network name is no
longer available"

"Window - Delayed Write Failed
Windows was unable to save all the data for the file
<FILENAME>. The data has been lost. This error may be
caused by a failure of your computer hardware or network
connection. Please try to save this file elsewhere."

--------------------------------------------------------

Problem:

I am unable to save files on a fileserver that I access
via VPN (netscreen-remote). The error message I get
is "Cannot copy The specified network name is no longer
available" when I use the explore (mapped network drive)
and "Window - Delayed Write Failed" when I e.g. try to use
Visual Studio on remotely Source Safe projects (Same same,
VSS tries to write to status.dat on the server).

--------------------------------------------------------

Current Setup:

XP pro english Service Pack 1

Dell Inspiron 8500

I am able to read files and copy files to my machine from
the server. Only writing/saving files to the server is a
problem.

I encounter the same problem when I use Internet Explorer
as an FTP client, also to non - VPN servers (I know I
shouldnt.....) but NOT when I use a true FTP client

I have no problem when I use my Win2000pro desktop

--------------------------------------------------------

What have I tried:

As everything works on my Win2000pro desktop I believe
that the problem is XP sp1 related. I found this article:

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=812937

I have disabled caching on all disks,

I have disabled file indexing on all disks incl the
fileserver (My sys admin likes me ;-)

I have tried suggested work arounds from above article and
related article: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?
scid=kb;EN-US;296264 (As our fileserver is win2000)

The error is somewhat sporadic, that is in 99% of tries it
will fail, and in 1%, with very small files, I am able to
save the files on the fileserver. (Still small files are
not a guarantee, it can still fail)

-----------------------------------------------------

I have requested the proposed fix mentioned in
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=812937 but would like
to rule out a brain blobber on my part.

All suggestions are welcome,
