"Cannot copy file: cannot read from the source file or disk" Mac Problem?

Dave

I have an Dell desktop running 98 and a Thinkpad running XP. The Dell
is my media server, and the thinkpad gets to it through wi-fi. They've
been working great together for the last month, then tonight my roomie
wanted some movies from the Dell on his Powerbook. We got it connected
after an hour of tinkering (on the powerbook only), transferred the
files, and then when i tried to use thinkpad an hour later all hell
broke loose. Here's a list of what's wrong:

1. I can copy files from Dell to Thinkpad, but only in chunks of 10
files or less. It's not a file size issue; I copied a large .avi to it
and it worked fine, but copying multiple files, no matter how small,
for some reason will give me the error "Cannot copy file: cannot read
from the source file or disk".

2. When thinkpad connects, the little word bubble pops up over the
systray and says "connected to network, signal strength low". Then I
hover over the wifi icon, and it now says "signal strength:
excellent". It also lists the connection as 54mbps, but I'm running
802.11b (max speed 11mbps, right?). Then the connection starts
skipping out and the "network bridge" icon starts complaining that
I've unplugged a cable.

3. All my network places are gone. I've run that stupid network setup
wizard like 20 times now, to no avail. I can still get to everything,
but I have to map it out, which is a major pain.

I'm not certain that this is all due to the powerbook, but it all
started right after we did the fileswap. Any idea?
