Cannot close Excel with X

Mario

Hello,

When I start Excel 2000 and I will close it again, I can't do this with the
X, when I click on the title bar the X becomes grey (not active). When I
choose File, Close the Save As screen appears.

I have solved this problem a long time ago but I really don't know anymore
what I did. Can anyone help me.

Thanks.

Are using using Groupwise?

If that's the problem. See this MSKB article

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;260199

Article is specific for 2000 but I think it is valid for other versions.

It gives a workaround (use the file menu) and instructions as to how to remove
the Groupwise add-in that is responsible for this behavior.

Cant close EXCEL with the X

HI, I had the same problem with newly-installed EXCEL 2007. After some investigation, I found that there was a reference to a blank worksheet in my XLSTART file. I don't remember putting it there in my previous EXCEL 2003 but somehow it was there. What happened was that when I started EXCEL, both the blank sheet and the one I clicked opened. THen when I clicked the X, only the active sheet closed. The blank sheet was still open.
The fix of course was to delete the reference to the blank sheet in the XLSTART folder.
