Cannot boot Xp partition in Dual boot after restoring with Ghost 1

Im currently running a dual-boot system of Vista (C Drive_ and Xp (D Drive).
I recently successfully restored Vista using Norton Ghost 12. Afterwards i
tried to boot up xp through Boot manager but nothing would load up, it just
leaves me with a blank screen and nothing else.

All of the files are still on the D drive but XP just wont load up!

Any help would be apprecitated... Cheers

Hi Laurachuk--

My last experience with Ghost was Ghost 9.0 with XP SP2 where many people
would get a non-bootable BSOD unless they did a simple modification to
boot.ini and I learned after one of those (you can almost always recover
from a "non-bootable BSOD" in Vista or XP to mod it.

So I'm not speaking from direct experience with Ghost 12 and Vista and
hopefully some people will.

After seeing that and other problems with Ghost, I've tended toward Acronis
although I'm sure world wide Ghost has as many strong propnents.

See if you can help yourself out of this with:

I notice that you installed XP *after* Vista, if the drive name sequence
(i.e. "C:" for Vista, "D:" for XP) is an indication. You must have run
into some problems there, too. Did you make your clone/image of Vista
before you installed XP?

Ive downloaded Vista pro boot and managed to get up the BCD entries and OS that are currently on my system. I ran a diagnostic and found a 'Rouge' OS... its showing to be an 'earlier version of windows so im wondering if the newer wversion of windows was made when i ghosted the system..? the details are as followed...

I ran the Ghost image from an increment that was made after both OS were installed, but it was ran from a Ghost CD backup... so im wondering if it has overwritten the XP BCD entries rather than just the Vista OS Entries.???

I think there might be a problem with the entry 1 and entry 2 both showing
the bootloader as Drive C. Also, always the preferable way to install a
dual boot or multiboot is to install the oldest Windows OS first. When
people have Vista already installed, and want to dual boot, I always give

I'm inferring from what you say you can't boot to either. Can you boot to
either OS?

BCD is a new situation in Vista.

If you don't have non-backed up files and documents to lose, I'd format and
start over and if you want to do a dual boot this time, I'd install XP first
and install Vista to a separate partition or drive and you shouldn't run
into trouble.

Also try to run the Vista setup from the XP desktop, and that way the bios
won't change oyour boot letters for the Vista drive ( a minor inconvenience
to be sure).

See i think this is the problem to why i cant boot... i think ghost may have overwritten the bootloader which is why the letters are both showing to boot from the same drive rather than seperate drives. I dont have a problem with both OS not booting up, simply the XP OS which is formatted on a seperate drive. Vista works fine and boots up fine, but XP doesnt boot up,....

So it seems that the problem is probably in the bootloader?? If i change the
boot drive to D in Vistabootpro for my XP will this make it Boot up?? Help
please
