following advice from a microsoft employee's post i saw in google, i entered some settings in my registry because i was having problems with IE - it wasn't loading images after a page or two requested. the reg key referred to a bunch of .nls files.

now i cannot boot up - i get the error
\WINNT\system32\CP_1252.nls is missing or corrupted

my last backup is from april, and i have an assignment due tomorrow, so i'd rather not go that route, but i suppose i will if i have to. anyone have any ideas? perhaps getting into a registry on an NTFS partition before booting?

please email (paul at fe4.com) directly - i'll be checking from my mac!

thanks,

paul

It would help to refer to the article web page explicitly so we have something to go on which you did. I suspect the file is fine you have just removed its call in the registry.

You report that the file
\WINNT\system32\CP_1252.nls
was missing or corrupt. I suspect the file name should be
\WINNT\system32\C_1252.nls

If so then you can do this:
- Expand the file on some other Win2000 PC
(expand e:\i386\c_1252.nl a:\c_1252.nls)
- Boot your machine with your Win2000 CD.
- Select Repair when prompted.
- Select Command Console.
- Enter the administrator password.
- Copy the missing file from a:\ to c:\winnt\system32
