Cannot Attach Excel files with Outlook 2002/XP

Hi all, im using windows XP and Office XP, and the problem is the
following:
When I try to attach an excel file (.xls) instead of appearing the
usual "Attachments" field, an Excel Icon in the body of the msg
appears, and when I send the email, the attachment does not exist.

Does anyone know if there's a solution to this ?

Thanks in advance, BG.

Are you sure the attachment never arrives at the other end? Do you see it in
your sent items folder? Change the format of your email to Plain Text or HTML
from Rich Text.

Both receive/send must use rich text format. Note: open
Outlook>Help>Keyword-Attachments>Under choose a topic select
"Troubleshooting inserting objects. Also provides info regarding not using
icon for representation.

Completely wrong. The sender is already using Rich Text. The recipient
obviously cannot read Rich Text (using Outlook Express, for example). The
answer is for the sender to use either Plain Text or HTML.

Please read my post in its entirety. For your benefit quoted from the
reference I made:
"To send and receive embedded objects when using the Internet e-mail service
in Microsoft Outlook, both the sender and the recipient must use Microsoft
Outlook Rich Text message format. If the recipient's e-mail program does not
support Microsoft Outlook Rich Text message format, send the object as an
attachment instead."

That the sender was sending an embedded object is supported by the fact that
embedded objects are represented by an icon- as originally stated in
original post.

Which has nothing to do with the OP's issue. Just because an icon appears
in the body of a Rich Text message doesn't mean it's embedded in the
message. It's still an attachment and gets encoded in TNEF format, which
non-Outlook mail clients tend to ignore.
