Cannot apply group policies to clients.

Giovanni T.

I will start with the basics: I have a Windows 2000 server and a
number of win2000 PC as network clients. I created an OU with the
user in it. I created a sample GP where I configured a "run" menu not
to appear on the client PC when such user is logged on. Strange thing
is that I cannot apply the policy throughout a domain at all! The
"run" is still sitting in the start menu. When I modified a domain OU
and created a GP there, the policy only worked on the server, and NOT
throughout the network. Please help.

Additionally: While looking for the information on the problem and
saw people discussing this issue with RealVNC or WinVNC being the
possible cause for the problem. However, I have not seen anyone
suggest a resolution. I need to mention that I have RealVNC installed
on the server as well as the server edition of the Vexira Antivirus.

Thank you everybody for your attention!

A couple of things:

1. You did set the setting in the User Configuration and not the Computer
Configuration section?
2. The computers are members of the domain?
3. The users have read and apply access to the GPOs?
4. Is DNS configured properly (clients point to AD dns and not ISP dns)?
5. What does the eventlog say on the clients (userenv source)?

Thank you for responding Arild!
1. You did set the setting in the User Configuration and not the Computer
Configuration section?
-- Yes I did. Everything is set in the user config. part.
2. The computers are members of the domain?
-- Yes they are.
3. The users have read and apply access to the GPOs?
-- I'm not very clear on that, I think so, but I will check.
4. Is DNS configured properly (clients point to AD dns and not ISP dns)?
-- That's correct.
5. What does the eventlog say on the clients (userenv source)?
-- I will get back with it later.

Also when I ran one of those gpo tools, it indicated that the policy
has never been applied... only local one was present.

Thank you for your help!
