Cannot access certain sites

Hi,

On my pc I cannot access some sites like www.google.com but I can access
www.google.co.uk, If i access google.com it will say 'Internet Explorer
cannot display the webpage'. Similarly I cannot access www.hi5.com and a few
more either such as www.jobcentreplus.gov.uk for example.

These sites used to work but over the past 6 months or so they just simply
stopped working. I can however access them from another pc in my household
so why cant i from my pc?

I have Windows XP with SP2 and Internet Explorer 7 using a Linksys wireless
router. If there were something wrong with the network then I shouldnt be
able to access the sites from the other pc? I have checked all the settings
as I know and I cant see anything wrong with them.

Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks for your help guys

I believe the default setting for IE7 is NOT to allow access to certain
sites

you have to change the setting to suit yourself

no, what im saying is im using the internet as normal even when i was using
IE6, I could access google.com and hi5.com but then after some time it just
started saying 'The page cannot be displayed' and its like this for some
other websites too.

Does anyone know why? I have tried that fix too but that doesnt help...

IE7 related questions should be asked in the Internet Explorer newsgroup.
There are quite a few posts there so peruse them for something on topic
before posting a new message.

Try disabling the phishing filter. I was encountering the exact same problem
(I did notice that all Microsoft websites loaded without issue). After a
great deal of troubleshooting, I finally disabled the phishing filter and all
is well now.

Try to open hosts file (C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\hosts) in notepad
and delete any entries for the domains you cannot access.
