Can Vista use all 4MB of RAM?

R

I read somewhere (in a magazine) that there was a way for 32 bit Vista
to use all 4 MB of RAM - but I can't remember where I saw it. Anybody
know?

Don't you just love all the self-righteous dipsticks in this group who

Ugh! I assume OP meant 4GB. I answered on that basis, though I copied
his use of MB instead of GB.

Although somewhat dated, here is an article that may help to clarify some
questions about memory use. It does state that applications only have access
to 2GB of RAM in the user mode unless you use the /3GB switch.

It seems to me that the OS does utilize all 4GB of memory, some of which is
reserved for device memory.

Buy 64 bit only. 32 bit is going the way of the dinosaur. (unless it is so
cheap it unbelievable).

This is Usenet. We don't use crystal balls or imagination. All we have to go on is the
text of the query.

If someone asks a question they have to be precise and provide proper facts or the query
can be misconstrued and the answer provided may be completely wrong.

Oh fer Christsake David - everyone knew what he meant. Try not being
so anal retentive for a day. You'll live longer and people will begin
to think you're not a dick.

Retorts like this put many people off asking questions in NGs.

Everyone, including you, knew what the "correct" question was from the
outset.

If you're really not sure about the question and don't want to mis-lead, a
friendly response beginning with "I assume you mean..." is all it takes.

The /3GB switch affects allocation of the VIRTUAL memory space given
to each running process. It has NOTHING to do with physical RAM.

HA HA HA HA - You just don't get the meaning of the post. Typical for an Ubuntu user. Print
out the message and I am sure you can find someone who can explain it to you. LOL!

But what about driver availability? Is there a way to predetermine if
all my products have 64 bit drivers?

Check with their respective manufacturers to determine the availability
of drivers.

You are a perfect candidate for Ubuntu. Speak with Alias and he will be
happy to get you set up.
