Can the Rage XL do sidescreen res?

Hi,

Are there any drivers out there that allow the rage XL to do widescreen
resolutions?
If not, can anyone recommend an AGP-2 or PCI GFX card that could and is
very cheap!? Not worried about 3D performance - it is just an office
machine!

Thanks

For Windows? No.

Every Radeon can do widescreen as can every Geforce. Get a Radeon 7000
or GF2MX or something like that...

OK - thanks.
Can the Rage XL do widescreen under linux?
I assume it is just a case of drivers, not hardware?

Thanks for your help

Sorry, I don't know (I don't use Linux). But I see no reason why not...

Right. The hardware is programmable and only limits the max possible
resolution and the max. refresh rate and color depth for a certain
resolution. Not exceeding this limits, it only depends on the driver if
a certain resolution is available - widescreen or not.

The standard ATi drivers for Rage XL don't include widescreen resolutions
(widescreen monitors weren't as fashionable back then). AFAIK it isn't a
hardware limitation. Have you tried the utility Powerstrip. It supposedly
allows you to set custom resolutions, among other things.
