Can share files one way but not the other

I have two computers that are both connected to a router in the house. The
desktop is connected using a wire and the laptop is wireless. The problem im
having is that the desktop can pull shared files off my laptop without any
issues. But if i try to take a file from the desktop to the laptop, then the
desktop looses all connectivity(network and internet). And it drops off the
networks window. Workgroups and usernames/passwords are all set correctly.
Im just at a loss what I may be missing.
