Can run Linux but XP Home won't get past logo

Greetings...I've been having a problem trying to get my laptop to work. I tried to repair my touch pad and when I tried to restart the computer it gave me the sorry for the inconvenience message and asked whether to start in safe mode, network, last known config, or to start windows normally. Anyways, I tried all of that and booting with last known config and windows normally got me to the XP Home Edition logo waited a while and then restarted giving the same sorry for the inconvenience message. I tried booting in safemode and a bunch of drivers scroll across the screen and halt after aliati.sys. Now, I understand that there must be some driver corruption or something which requires the Recovery console on the OEM CD for Home Edition. Well, I've tried to get a hold of one with no luck because I don't have one. I don't have ~$100 so I'm curious what I can do. I can tell you that after a month of trying to get a hold of the Home Ed CD I downloaded a copy of Knoppix. I'm running Knoppix on the same laptop at this very moment but I don't know if I can repair XP Home when I'm in Linux OS. Can anyone throw me some pointers on this matter? Thanks for your time.
PEACE and LOVE!

Tom,

If your Laptop came with Windows XP Home Edition pre installed then contact
the OEM for support.
They should be able to provide your with either a recovery CD or some other
method for restoring your machine to as shipped from the factory.
If it did not come with Windows XP pre installed then you should have the CD
ROM you installed the product from in the first place - yet you mention not
having one.

Please clarify the situation

I bought the computer from my brother-in-law (who is in Mexico now). There is no CD to use and the original manufacturer won't even reply to emails.
