Qhosts maybe?

Search your entire system drive, including hidden and systems folders,
for file "hosts".

If no clues yet, "ipconfig /all >ipconfig.txt" and post contents of
ipconfig.txt here.

Cheers,

Chuck

Thanks Chuck
I searched for 'hosts' and found two but they appear to be
legitimate. One is in C:\I386 and the other in
C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\Etc

I have auto update and found that the Q828750 patch for
this is listed in the 'About Internet Explorer' window. I
checked some of the indications that Mcafee listed and did
not find any.

ipconfig /all

If you cannot ping host names you likely have a DNS issue. DO you have a DNS
Server set in your TCPIP config? Check by opening a cmd window and running
"ipconfig /all". If there is a DNS server listed, try to ping it. Try
changing to use a different DNS server. Also check you DNS client cache -
from a command prompt type "ipconfig /displaydns" to view the cache and
"ipconfig /flushdns" to clear it.

Thanks Marc,
I think the answer is yes to the DNS server - this was
provided by linksys (since I am using their router)- prior
to that I was trying to use DHCP without sucess - see my
earlier reply for the ipconfig /all results.

I tried the diplaydns and flushdns - results are the same
befoe and after I flush:

Hi,

Open up a command window and type "nslookup". After you get the nslookup
prompt, type www.yahoo.com. and see if you get a list of IP address for
yahoo.
