Can Outlook mark an email if it's replied?

Like Outlook Express, when I replied to a message, it has a little "replied"
icon. Can I do that in Outlook?

yes, it does so by default.
a purple arrow signifies a reply. when the envelope is open the message has
been read.

it normally does the same, except for hotmail accounts.

But it doesn't do that on my hotmail accounts in Outlook. How can I do that?
I used to be able to do that in Outlook Express even on the hotmail accounts.
