I have a large set of Excel spreadsheets, mostly with VB macros. Until earlier today they were all working as per normal. I also use an Autoit 'macro' to copy some stuff into one of these spreadsheets. Unfortunately this Autoit application was run against the wrong spreadsheet and (presumably) pasted some data into a wrong place. Since then any attempt to run excel, either by d/clicking an xls file or by running excel.exe produced the stock error "Microsoft Office Excel has encountered a problem and needs to close". I had to then agree to open Excel in Safe Mode and found all my settings had gone eg default folder, custom lists, macro security settings etc.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled MS Office and have run a full AV scan (McAfee) but I still get the above error and can only start Excel in Safe Mode.

Any suggestions please.

My MS Office is 2003 fully updated to SP3. My Xp is v5.1 SP3.
