Make sure the Word document you are trying to attach is not open elsewhere.
Windows Mail can't attach open documents ( Windows Live Mail can).

As for your Craigslist problem, it seems that your Windows Mail doesn't have
all its defaults.
Open the Default Programs applet, which you can access either from
the Start menu or via the Control Panel, then click the first item:
"Set your default programs."
After a few seconds, a list of programs comes up. Click on "Windows
Mail". If it doesn't respond with "This program has all its defaults"
then fix it by clicking on the option indicated by the first green arrow.

The document you are attempting to attach must, at minimum, be "Saved"
immediately before you try to attach it to the email. It is "open" if it is
displayed anywhere on your screen, including "minimized" to the bottom task
bar. So make sure it is not "open", or at least "save" it prior to
attempting to attach it.

So after setting the defaults do you still have the Craigslist issue?

As for the Word attachment issue, please walk us through the steps
of exactly what you are doing that causes that error message to pop up.

gary i did what you said with the defaults thing and it said it already had
its defaults but i went ahead and clicked the first green arrow. still having
both problems. now have found a new problem! computer came with microsoft
works, thats what im trying to attach, i already had a microsoft office 2007
disc that i bought from walmart a few months back, this dis worked fine on my
emachine but says select a location to intall it and when i do keeps saying

Did you let it install to the default location or were you trying to specify
a different location? It is generally recommended you install software to
its default location.

With regard to the Craigslist issue, there is another version of the
utility that resets the defaults:
The following procedure will rewrite the default protocol
assignments in the registry:
Open the Default Programs applet, then click on "Set program
access and computer defaults." Expand the Custom selection, and
select Windows Mail. Click OK.

If you want to install Office 2007 you should uninstall Works first.
Let Office install to the default location, which generally will be
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\
