can not open remote webs/do not have permission access web folder

G

Guest

I hope someone can help me because i have worked on this issue for so long
this past 24 hours my hands have gone numb... :)

am running FrontPage 2002, XP Pro, IIS 5.1

Something has caused me not to able to open remote webs. When I try to open
any of my remote webs I get the error popup with the most annoying sound ...

"You do not have permission to access this web folder location." I am not
prompted for a Password at any time.

When i try to open the web from the browser, I am again Not prompted for a
PW and it will open the page only not the actual web itself.

And Yes, I can open my local rootwebs but when i try to publish it says web
not found on server.

Steps I have taken.

1) I have changed some registry values under the HKEY/local machine/... and
ran Mdac.inf as per a MS trouble shooting page suggestion.

2) I emptied my cache and temp files with the FP cleaner and internet options.

3) I downloaded an analyzer and this is the info I got from when I tried to
open a remote web.

4) i have uninstalled and reinstalled the FP2002 server extensions and done
a repair.

5) and of course the first thing I did was run repair on FP2002 itself

See below for the actual open web attemp.

Anyone have any ideas???

Absolutely, it was actually the first thing that I did when I got the error.
They don't see anything wrong at thier end so I then I tried to access my
other webs on several different servers and it is the same situation. So that
tells me it is my machine and not the remote servers. Something, changed on
my computer and i can't pinpoint what exactly happend.

And what has changed on your machine since you could?
SP, patches , new software installs, proxy or connection settings, AV programs?

I hope i am not replying twice but my last reply errored out and didn't seem
to post...

I am not sure what i have installed sinced iFP last worked because I work
mostly from an office for a particuler website and don't do as much on my
home computer.

I have it set up so i am allowing MS to update me and I don't always pay
attention to what MS is so graciously downloading into my computer. :-}

HOwever, I did notice for the first time last week that i had the Microsoft
Net Framework in my start menu and i had never seen that before. I really
don't know if i had that before? In looking at the Net framework I see there
are a lot of security options but I can' t tell if any of them are configured
in such a way as to prevent me from accessing the remote webs.

Maybe this is a security issue?

Please..... any suggestions? I feel like i am quicksand out here ...

Thanks

Peyla

i did do this work-around which did work to some degree.. YEA

On my computer I created another USER from the control panel/users and
switched to that User and was able to open the web.

It is not exactly my ideal solution but I was able to get in and make the
changes i needed to make while i try to figure this out. I hope I can get it
working normally though without all that switching users.

I am not sure how to compare the difference between my newly created User
and my regular Owner/user to see what the difference is between the two.

I am thinking it is something to do with security settings but i am not sure.

Any thoughts??
