Can not install updates

K

kraut

When I installed XP home on system it told me when I went to check for
and install updates that I could not because I did not have permission
or administrator rights or whatever it was.

How do I fix this so I do and can install updates in the future??

TIA

I appreciate a reply and realize you are trying to help but doesn't
anyone ever have a simple abswer any more other then sending to a
bunch of web sites? Someone said that all I had to do was to right or
left click and select something. I accidently delete his e-mail so I
can not do what he said because I do not know what he said.

I am new to all this stuff and have the things I see on these site I
have not the slightest idea what they are talking about!!

Thanks anyways. I will probably end up hiring someone to do what is
most like a simple matter of putting an x in box someplace.

Did you try READING the information at the URLs? It seemed pretty clear to
me. Of course, I did have to click my mouse to see it.

In these groups it is not a bad reflection on yourself to admit to being
computer illiterate.
I do and so do others.
So it was assumed that you could at least read - a bit of self-help will do
you good and help you learn.
Go to the links given - print off what you need - then follow the steps in
the articles.
It would appear that after you installed XP you did not set yourself up as
the administrator - there are lots of things you cannot do unless you have
this configured.
Good luck - if you have problems with doing these links then come back and
ask.
