can not boot after service pack 2 installation

Hi
windows xp pro italian sp1.
During installation of sp2 I got message "can not read mrxsmb.sys"
three times.
I could not cancel the operation.
Now during booting i receive bsod with rdr_file_system mrxsmb.sys or i
receive lsass.exe system error. In both case the system restart. Safe
and debug mode too.
By the way when i digit the administrator password to access the
recovery console from cd i get bad password.
I would prefer not to format.

Try a repain install:

Also on the admin password try leaving it blank.

I was able to start the system in safe mode with console.
I copied the mrxsmb.sys from \servicepackfiles to C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers.
I had one more bsod and then i could log in.
Strange !
