can not access some web pages after deleting spyware

My computer, windowsxppro, was infected with lots and lots of spyware and
adware and a couple of trojans even though I have Ez armor anti virus and
spybot with resident protection. Anyway I had been running Wintune Up to
better the performance of my computer which had found a bunch of bad registry
entries and other junk on the computer. So i created a system restore before
removing the bad entries. Then i got super infected with spyware and spybot
removed all of that. Now when I try to access web pages, such as road runner
or msn, all I see is the blank page. Pages never finish appearing. I tried to
do a system restore but all my restore points had vanished. I reset web
settings but still can not get anywhere. Is there anything I can do short of
reinstalling xp? Please help and thank you.

Dont know the answer to your problem...but I had to reply
Apparently you either failed to set your virus scanner properly or failed to use
its update feature. An anti virus program needs to be updated to keep it informed
of new trojans/virus etc.It needs to be set to scan your files as well as your
downloads and email.
The Same is true of SpyBot...its needs to be run once a week and updated at the
same time.
AdAware from LavaSoft is a nice addition to SpyBot between the 2 of them they
will find and destroy 99% of all adware/spyware et al
As for Wintuneup.....I use a registry cleaner and it prompts..nags...me to back
up before it makes any changes...does not Wintuneup do the same thing?? and if
not dump that piece of crap.Blindly letting any program make changes in the
registry is not a good thing.I trust the program that I use but I still read
over every line and do that back up before I clean the registry.
Just my 2c worth.....an ounce of prevention and all that

Considering that everything takes time, you may choose the road that takes
the shortest time to travel.

My opinion for what it's worth: update all the anti-virus and syware
applications. Maybe get Adaware and use it in conjunction with Spybot. Scan
the PC and when you think it's clean power off.

Reboot using the XP installation CD and perform a Repair Installation; make
sure that you are not connected to your modem during the installation process.

This should take less than 2 hours and I beleive that it is a simpler and
more reliable process than registry scans and editing for the less
experienced.

When you see the "Welcome To Setup" screen, you will see the options below
This portion of the Setup program prepares Microsoft
Windows XP to run on your computer:

To setup Windows XP now, press ENTER.

To repair a Windows XP installation using Recovery Console, press R.

To quit Setup without installing Windows XP, press F3.
Press Enter to start the Windows Setup.
Accept the License Agreement and Windows will search for existing Windows
installations.
Select the XP installation you want to repair from the list and press R to
start the repair.
Setup will copy the necessary files to the hard drive and reboot. Do not
press any key to boot from CD when the message appears. Setup will continue
as if it were doing a clean install, but your applications and settings will
remain intact.

The exact same problem has happened to me - I'm curious if BAR's
recommendations worked. Will I loose any data or settings from my computer?
