can I use text color to set up a formula in excel (Red text = -1)

I would like to create a spread sheet that when something is written in Red
text in a cell that it will subtract one from the total. Is Excel able to do
this?

I think you mean is negative value that Excel format them
automatically as red for the font color.

You don't need to subtract the total trough VBA, because
Excel will subtract them

If you knew the exact color index or RGB combination that made up the RED
text you might be able to do it, but it is an extremely dangerous way to
write your code if you are looking for accuracy. I would suggest you try a
different type of flag that is easier to control for input by the user.
