Can I send a message automatically at recurring intervals?

My job requires me to send an email every Friday of every week, to prompt
fellow employees for information I need to prepare a weekly report. I have
tried, unsuccessfully to generate this reminder as an automatic email. Can
this be done? If so, how? I've thought of using the calendar feature in
Outlook to set up a recurring event? but this doesn't accomplish my goal.
Please help.
