Can I rename a profile folder and it still be linked to same usern

Hello everybody. I have a complicated question that I haven't been able to
find a clear answer to. Maybe someone can help. A little background info-
We had a last minute fire/hire and ended up renaming a user account of the
old employee to the username of the new one, so the new employee could start
working right away. When the new user logs on under the renamed user account
all of the settings (mapped drivers, My Docs, etc.) of the old user are
there. The renamed account uses the profile folder of the old user. But,
the new user is very bothered by the fact that under Documents and settings
his profile folder name is the name of the older user, and not his name. We
do not use roaming profiles. I would like to rename the folder, but I know
that if I do, a new profile folder will be created for the new user's
username and he will no longer have the settings of the old user. Does
anyone know how to rename a profile folder but still have the folder be used
by a certain account? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Do this:
1. Reboot the machine.
2. Log on as admin.
3. Rename the person's profile folder to jack.old.
4. Delete his account (net user jim /del)
5. Create a new account for jim (net user jim /add)
6. Log on as jim.
7. Reboot the machine.
8. Log on as admin.
9. Copy the renamed profile to jim's profile folder
(Control Panel / System / Advanced / Profiles)

Step 3 will save the old user's settings.
Step 4 will erase the new person's account.
Step 6 will create the desired profile folder.
Step 9 will repopulate the new profile folder.
