Can I remove unchecked entries in Msconfig/Start Up

I switch on in the morning and let AVG do its thing. But its taking
longer than it used to, just at the very time I need to send an urgent
email for example.

MSConfig/Start Up shows four checked items.
avgcc NvCpl jushed all in HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current
Version\Run and
cftmon in HKCU \Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current version\Run.
I presume these are all needed at startup time.

BUT there are lots of other entries, unchecked, in Software\Microsoft
\Windows\Current Version\Run names like Nero check, Picassa, Spybot,
Quicktime and other popular names which are not needed by me until I
click on the program.

In the interest of good housekeeping can I remove these items and if
so how would I do that?

Consider "startup control panel" - google that - as alternative to
msconfig. Does the same thing but better, more friendly, makes it easy
to delete and later restore if you need, etc.

Of course you can remove your unchecked entries in Start Up.There are so many
free softwares available on the net.I would recommend you to download Startup
Control Panel from here:-
http://www.mlin.net/files/StartupCPL.zip
It's just 59KB,so you don't need to worry about it's size.It shows almost
all the start up entries. It has a place from where you can restore an entry
that you unknowingly deleted. With this utility you can add, edit, delete or
disable any start up entry.

If this has helped you solve your problem then please click the button 'Yes'
next to "Was this post helpful to you?" in the end of my reply.

Thanks everyone for your responses
I've looked at StartupControl Panel But it only covers the entries
starting with the four letters, HKLM and HKCU.
There are only four entries and each is checked and I presume its
needed.

My interest is in the rest of the stuff I described. Those entries
start with the word Software. None are checked.
