Can I reinstall XP prof on top of Partition Magic 8 made partitions and recover data?

I have lost the system part of \windows\system\config\system due to a
powercut. XP can boot using the XP disk to the repair console.

How do I reinstall XP prof to my C: drive which is currently partitioned
by Partition magic and bve able to recover disk data?
